US troops Withdrawal from Iraq
The United States and Iraq have reached an agreement on the withdrawal of U.S.-led coalition forces from Iraq, according to a new report. The U.S. currently has around 2,500 troops stationed in Iraq. Under the new plan for U.S. troops’ withdrawal, hundreds of these soldiers will leave by September 2025, with the remaining troops departing by the end of 2026.
While the framework for the withdrawal has been agreed upon, the plan still requires final approval from both Washington and Baghdad before it can be publicly announced and executed. U.S. officials have confirmed that a deal is in place for the US troops withdrawal from Iraq, and the timing of the announcement is the only detail yet to be finalized.
In addition to the withdrawal, the two nations are exploring the possibility of establishing a new advisory relationship. This could allow a limited number of U.S. soldiers to remain in Iraq after the official withdrawal to provide military support and advice.
A formal announcement regarding the agreement was initially planned for earlier this year but was delayed due to regional tensions, including the ongoing Gaza conflict, and the need to finalize certain details.

Iraqi Prime Minister’s foreign affairs advisor, Farhad Alaaldin, stated that technical negotiations with Washington concerning the coalition’s exit have concluded. He emphasized that Iraq is now on the verge of transitioning its relationship with coalition members to a new level, focusing on bilateral military, security, economic, and cultural cooperation.
The agreement is expected to be formally announced in the coming weeks, marking a significant shift in U.S.-Iraq relations and paving the way for a new chapter in the two countries’ military partnership.
